Set page titles and descriptions for Google
Choose how each page shows in Google results, change its web address, keep a page out of Google, and pick the picture a shared link shows.
#Open a page's Google settings
- Open Pages.
- Press More on the page's row and choose Web address and Google.
#Title and description in Google results
Type the Title in Google results and the Description in Google results. Counters show how long each is, and a preview shows how the result will look.
A title can be up to 70 characters; under 60 shows in full on Google. A description can be up to 170 characters; the preview shows the first 160.
#Change a page's web address
Type a word or two under Web address, for example our-team. The old address forwards to the new one, and links on your site follow. The home page is always at your site's own address.
#Keep a page out of Google
Switch on Keep this page out of Google for a thank-you page or a page for one ad. Switch on Hide the menu and footer for an ad landing page; it then shows only your logo, phone and main button.
#Service pages, posts and the rest
Service pages set their Google title and description with the gear on their row in Pages, and news posts in their settings. The one sentence about your business, in Settings under Your business, is what search engines and shared links show for your site. Describing your photos helps search engines too.
Your free preview address is not listed by Google. When you go live, we tell Google and Bing about your site and its list of pages.
#Questions
Can I leave a page's title empty?
No. Every page needs a title and a description for Google; the builder writes both for you to start with. A service page left empty uses its name and its one line.
Why is my site not on Google yet?
The preview address is kept out of Google on purpose. Go live on your own web address and your site is open to search engines.
